Race to the wireless: firms compete for telecom licenses

Hong Kong government open bids for telecommunications licenses for companies to provide wireless, television, data communications, regular telephone and Internet services. Fourteen companies are bidding for licenses and analysts handicap seven of the companies seen as front runners.

Property firms shift focus: companies move into high-technology industry

Share prices of real estate companies such as China Prosperity have been resilient in the Hong Kong stock market despite the absence of fundamental strengths in these companies. Analysts and investors attribute this resiliency to a growing trend towards the conversion of property companies into high technology firms. Other property firms that have also already ventured into the technology arena include Pearl Oriental Holdings, Dong-Jun Holdings and New World Development.
