Production scheduling in a flexible manufacturing system under random demand

Article Abstract:

Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) is considered a significant development in automated manufacturing of parts in reducing the processing lead-time and boosting productivity and competitiveness. The problem of production scheduling in FMS with stochastic demand is examined by presenting a polling model for the purpose of minimizing the total average cost, and an optimization model that determines the optimal mixing proportions of the part-family.

Resolution of a scheduling problem in a flowshop robotic cell

Article Abstract:

A study identifying a scheduling problem in a flexible manufacturing system i.e., a flowshop robotic cell processing many tasks, is presented. For the purpose, it is assumed that there are no intermediate buffer stocks thereby causing job blocks when machines are busy. A solution to the problem is also suggested.
