Pandering to pandas

Article Abstract:

Captive male pandas show little interest in breeding. Efforts of zoo-keepers and researchers to artificially inseminate captive females have only resulted in twins, making it difficult for the mother to sustain both newborns. Efforts to provide the pandas with a natural habitat conducive to breeding are also being slowed down by the necessary site characteristics. The area must, of necessity, be contiguous and have sustainable supplies of the panda staples arrow and umbrella bamboo. However, problems with the reintroduction of captive pandas to the wild could prove insurmountable.

Article Abstract:

Foreign banks consider China a promising place to invest their money in. In the past, foreign banks were only allowed to open offices in the five Special Economic Zones of Southeast China. There are also signs that Taiwanese banks will try to find their niche in the Chinese market.

Goodbye to all that

Article Abstract:

The fall of Zhou Beifang from grace and his father's resignation as head of Shougan continue to stir speculation among China-watchers. The events may indicate maneuvering over post-Deng Xiaoping leadership, or an anti-corruption investigation of senior communist leaders, or a movement away from contract management to more standardized business. The elder Zhou, Guanwu, is apparently still drawing some political support. However, he is also hurt by Shougang's declining financial fortunes.
