Optimal transfer pricing schemes for work averse division managers with private information

Article Abstract:

Two models of an intrafirm resource allocation problem dependent on information acquisition timing are examined. Optimal coordination mechanisms are developed to support internal transactions. Results show that optimal output level under asymmetric can include overproduction or underproduction compared with the full information optimal output, regardless of information acquisition timing. Managers also sometimes are unable to receive information rent benefit for private information even if they have the right to renege on the contract after obtaining private information.
