Rationalization in Germany's medium-sized, family-owned companies, known as mittelstand, has given rise to opportunities for foreign investors. In recent years, the willingness of the mittelstand to sell majority stakes or to float on the stock-market has given foreign companies an unrivalled opportunity to enter the German market. Attractive sectors that should be considered include manufacturing, services, telecommunications, media and healthcare.
