Artificial intelligence researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are studying the circuitry of the human brain. They are trying to mimic the 'parallel distributed processing' of neurons. A basic problem is that networks of neurons work in extremely complex ways.

Making waves: atom microscopes
Article Abstract:
Oliver Carnal and other researchers at the university of Konstanz are developing an atomic microscope. Atoms are less destructive than faster traveling electrons. Carnal is using Fresnel lenses to focus atoms into a stream for use in a microscope.
