A court in St Petersburg, Russia, has admitted that charges against political prisoner Alexander Nikitin, who was accused of stealing secrets about the navy's handling of nuclear waste and passing them to foreigners, were not properly prepared. He has not been formally acquitted, but has been made a free man. This case has prompted the Russian security services to take even harsher action against other political prisoners, including journalist Grigory Pasko.
