Old Navy sails to Canada's shores

Article Abstract:

Old Navy Clothing Co, based in San Francisco, CA, on Apr 6, 2001 entered the Canadian market with new stores in 12 Ontario cities. The 12 stores, which represent the retailer's first entry into a foreign market, will vary in size from 20,000-26,000 sq ft. Although Old Navy had no presence at all in Canada before the launch, consumer awareness of the retailer's arrival is high. According to Starcom Worldwide Managing Dir Scott Neslund, the awareness factor perhaps was due to Canadians' fondness for crossborder shopping.
