Article Abstract:

The violence on 4th June 1989, that crushed peaceful protests by students and other citizens for many Chinese, particularly the young, leaving hundreds dead, has faded into history. All traces of tank treads and bullet scars are gone from Tiananmen square, but the marks endures on the life of ordinary people and in its imposition of a conservative leadership and agenda that has frozen political reform at the top.

Article Abstract:

The former Peking university researcher, Zhou Duo massed at the end of north Tiananmen square in the pre-dawn darkness of 4th June 1989 in China and admitted that if there were any protesters, he did not see them. Zhou was caught by the police and detained for 11 months, which pushed him into the position of dissident.

Liu Di, known online as the Stainless Steel Mouse, is out of jail and back online. Liu's case illustrates the limits of association and online expression and the dangerously thin line in China between throwing a party and establishing one.
