Article Abstract:
Several new types of semiconductor laser operating in the 3-5um infrared (IR) waveband were developed by the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) with funding from the Office of Naval Research. The new lasers are potentially useful for chemical agents detection, IR scene projection, laser radars (ladars) and IR-seeking missile defense. The design and modelling of complex layered quantum-well structures based on the antimonide family of semiconductors was conducted by the NRL researchers with wave-function engineering.

Article Abstract:
STN Atlas has unveiled a laser projection display system for full mission flight simulators at the I/IDSED Exhibition in Orlando, FL, on Nov 22, 2000. The Rheinmettal-owned company claims that its laser system display provides high brightness, exceptional contrast and low life-cycle cost, and is considered a breakthrough for use in visual systems. The advanced technology, marketed as Avior laser system, was developed with the help of Laser Display Technology.

Article Abstract:
Rohde and Schwarz has developed a new multi-band, multi-mode multirole tactical (M3TR) radio for the German armed forces. The system is available in two variants: the MR3000U for the 25-512MHz band and the MR 3000H for the 1.5-108MHz band. Because they are software-controlled, the radios can be programmed in theory to be compatible with SINCGARS, Bowman and PR4G radio networks, allowing them to be used in a coalition operation.
