A new Geneva-based ground handling company called AVIANCE has been formed that will offer ground-handling services at 34 locations in seven countries. The founding members of AVIANCE include Jet Aviation, Alyzia Airport Services, Celebi Ground Handling, Euro Handling and Laufer Aviation. AVIANCE will offer its services under a common contract but the six companies would remain independent of each other. The company will also offer multilocation contracts, resulting in economic advantages to airlines.

BAA has introduced key performance indicators (kpis) at London Heathrow Airport for interterminal passager and baggage handling for connecting flights. These kpis have been made possible by an IT solution developed by a partnership between Intermec Technologies, Controlforce and Concorde Express. The move is expected to bring London Heathrow Airport into line with the passenger and baggage rates at other major European airports such as Amsterdam Schiphol and Frankfurt.

The world's leading airport operator BAA has initiated the move to form a working group that would create an international e-business-based alliance for airports. Provisionally known as World Airports, The group's members include Aeroports de Paris, Copenhagen Airports, Dallas Fort Worth, Houston Airport System,, Indianapolis International, and Melbourne and Pittsburgh International.
