The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plans to acquire 3 hydro-electric projects being set up by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The 3 ventures are the 300 mw Maveri Bhali project, the 420 mw Lakhwar Vyasi project and the 300 mw Srinagar project. NTPC hopes that these projects would be able to generate power in the next 3-4 years once the deal is finalised. It plans to take loans from the World Bank for funding these projects. (gs)

British Gas, which has a 51 percent holding in Gujarat Pipavav LNG Terminal Company Ltd (GPLTC), will dilute its majority stake in favour of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the Gujarat state government. NTPC will be acquiring at least a 26 percent stake in GPLTC to source its liquefied natural gas requirements for its northern India power plants. NTPC wants to acquire a majority stake so that it can have a say in the sourcing of the feedstock. (khr)

Associated Cement Companies is planning to sell its five captive thermal power units aggregating 125 mw to Tata Electric Companies of the Tata group. The Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board and the Karnataka State Electricity Board have to clear the sale as the power plants are their jurisdiction. Sources say that the five units may be sold for a consideration of about Rs500 crore. (khr)
