GE, INDIA METERS INK LICENSING PACT

Article Abstract:

India Meters Ltd (IML) of Chennai has entered into a patent and technology license agreement with General Electric (GE) of the US to upgrade the production of electro-mechanical meters at its Chennai unit. The agreement will enable IML to provide domestic electricity boards and private utilities with GE's range of electro-mechanical meters which will vastly improve measurement and billing accuracy. IML is to invest Rs10 crore for setting up the facility for the new range of upgraded meters. The new facility is expected to be ready in 18 months. (khr)

IML PLANS TIE-UP WITH US MAJOR

India Meters Ltd (IML) is negotiating with a company in the US to upgrade its facility at Ambattur. IML makes electrical energy meters. It proposes to invest Rs8 crore to Rs9 crore for the upgradation. It has posted a net profit of Rs2.6 crore in 1997- 98. Its equity and reserve amount to Rs22 crore. It plans to increase the existing capacity of one million metres per annum. (rk)
