BHARAT STARCH LOSING STEAM

Article Abstract:

The director's report of Bharat Starch Industries Ltd for the year 1996-97 carried a statement that the diversification programme of setting up a 20,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) citric acid plant had already been commissioned in May 1997. But the same director's report in the balance sheet for 1997-98 envisages that the unit is unlikely to go on stream before October 1998. This means that the company is expected to incur heavy cost overruns in its citric acid unit. The total capital cost of the project has been revised to around Rs262 crore in the latest report. (gsh)
