Muzzled in Malaysia

Article Abstract:

Malaysian opposition politician, Lim Guan Eng from the Democratic Action Party, has been jailed for 18 months on sedition charges. He criticised the Malayisan attorney general and police over their actions in a case where a girl of 15-years-old claimed that men had sex with her. All the men, except a politician, were charged. The politician may be innocent, but Lim has a right to criticise. The sentence may mean that parliamentarians and others become afraid to criticise, and there is concern about authoritarianism in Malaysia.
