Model legitimisation in operational research

Article Abstract:

Model validation and model legitimization are argued as two intermingling but separate subjects both integral in operational research (OR). An OR model may be effective but it has to be considered 'legitimate' or important and functional before it can be applied to a company. Legitimization, therefore is a prerequisite in operational research. However, for a model to be wholly accepted, it has to be classified legitimate by both major and minor shareholders.

Lead time and response time in a pull production control system

Article Abstract:

A model of a pull-based production control system for a single-stage facility is devised which effects a reduction in both manufacturing and response times. The model uses a heuristic search procedure to find optimal manufacturing lead times for reduced response time. The heuristic search procedure tries to find which parameters in the manufacturing process could effect faster movement between buffer states.
