Article Abstract:

Japan's role in national self defense and its contribution to international security are discussed in the light of its participation in UN peacekeeping operations in Iraq. In spite of Japan's fighting strength and military profile being boosted, parliament's research commission on the constitution is apprehensive about Japan's participation in international conflicts.
