Article Abstract:
CKD Dopravni systemy (CKD DS) (Prague, Czech Republic), rail vehicle manufacturer, has been going on manufacturing trains for the underground in Prague since June 2000. The necessary finances for the production have been ensured by the state bank Konsolidacni banka (KOB) (Czech Republic), which has granted an operating credit of up to 0.5 bil Kc for the order. The first five trains will be delivered to the public transport company and the underground's operator Dopravni podnik hlavniho mesta Prahy (Prague, Czech Republic) by the end of 2000. All the delivery of the 22 five-coach trains should be completed in 2002. CKD DS, which now has a majority stake held by KOB, is under bankruptcy proceedings. The state is looking for a strategical partner for the firm.
