More Malaysians complain about the fast pace of infrastructure development in Malaysia for fear that quality of life might deteriorate just like what happened to Manila and Bangkok. Just as Petrona Towers, the world's tallest building, is nearing completion other construction projects are being planned. Projects include the building of the world's longest building, another international airport, a giant dam with the world's longest submarine cable and the Multimedia Supercorridor, a high-technology business center.

U.S. firms in Malaysia labor to find, keep staff

Malaysia's success in attracting foreign companies has left the country with an acute manpower shortage, making it increasingly difficult for firms to recruit and retain workers. To cope with the situation, US companies operating in Malaysia are turning to higher salaries, bigger bonuses and other perks to attract prospective employees. Many expatriate executives believe that growing labor costs will eventually prompt foreign firms to move their operations to neighboring countries.

Gays find freedom in tolerant Thai society

The first all-gay town in the world is set to open in late 1995 in Thailand. The town for 2,000, which will feature amenities such as karaoke bars, cafes, health clubs, pools and massage parlors, has not elicited a single complaint, affirming the Thai society's permissiveness when it comes to homosexuality. Project owner Dejdeow Srichai is choosing from among a number of applicants those who are qualified to reside in the gay community, which will be known as Flower Town.
