The M. Group PCL of Bangkok, Thailand, is divesting itself of assets in three telecommunication companies, all based in Thailand. These include the Asia Broadcast & Communications Network, a satellite company; mobile-phone equipment company International Engineering PCL; and cellular-phone firm Wireless Communications Services. Funds generated by the sale of the media stakes will be funneled into Manager Media International Ltd. to help it remain stable. The move ends M. Group's Sondhi Limthongkul's dream of establishing a media empire spanning Asia.

Hachette Filipacchi Magazines Inc. (Hachette) has announced the introduction of more magazines as part of its aggressive expansion drive into Asia. Hachette CEO for Asia-Pacific operations Christine Brendle stated that the company plans to introduce between three to four new titles in the region every year instead of the usual one. Hachette is aggressively competing with Conde Nast in the Asian market.

Hachette Filipacchi Asia-Pacific is busy creating new editions of its many publications for Asian readers, particularly the Chinese. The publishing company has entered into a contract with another firm that will produce the Chinese version of its 'Woman's Day' magazine. It is also increasing the frequency of the Chinese edition of the fashion magazine called 'Elle' from six issues a year to 12.
