Article Abstract:

The number of dissidents in China has declined in recent years as efforts to jail them or they have escaped have increased. The 1989 demonstration at Tiananmen Square was the last great protest, and the massacre is still on the minds of many. Revolt may still occur as challenges become fewer.

Chinese newspapers report that applications for marriage had a 4-to-1 rate over those for divorce. The divorce rate has increased twofold during the last 10 years. A Shanghai survey revealed that 33% of the divorces could be attributed to extra-marital affairs.
