Litton wins Avondale Industries with 511.2 million euros cash bid

Litton Industries Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire Avondale Industries Inc. for approximately $529 million (511.2 million euros) in cash. The agreement brought a one-month battle with Newport News Shipbuilding Inc. for Avondale to a close. Newport refused to make an additional bid for Avondale, a shipbuilder based in New Orleans. Litton's acquisition price for Avondale comes out to $39.50 per share.
