Lessons from the Andes school

Article Abstract:

An obsolete cable-car terminal building in Manizales, Colombia, is home to one of the Colombian National University's three faculties of architecture. The restored and extended building, which is 2,150 mt up an Andean mountain range, provides accommodation far more exotic than that found in drab and ordinary British schools. Similarly, the architectural courses, open to all-comers, are innovative and of higher quality than the courses available in some UK colleges, where the examination entry system bars all but the academically elite from taking part.

Article Abstract:

The public are becoming more aware of the adverse ecological impact of cars, but few realise the adverse effects on the efficiency and economic viability of public transport systems.
