Land exchange

Article Abstract:

Puerto Azul Land sought to raise funds for expansion through a listing on the stock exchange, and could lose assets as a result. The company's bid to join the Philippine Stock Exchange was backed by a court, but the company's land titles have been investigated. A site of 21 hectares was found to lie within a national park and the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources declared the titles invalid in Jul 1996. A 280 hectare property owned by the company and the site of a resort is also to be investigated as is a 2,500 hectare property owned by the family involved in the resort.

Article Abstract:

Brewer San Miguel was the top ranking company in the Philippines in 1996, followed by hamburger chain Jollibee Foods. The former company faced difficult conditions, with demand for beer declining with changing drinking preferences and growing competition from Asia Brewery. However, it is establishing a strong presence in other parts of Asia. Jollibee Foods was more successful than Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's in 1996, and now has 190 outlets in the Philippines and 22 abroad. Other leading Philippine corporations are discussed.
