Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) accounts for some 37% of US doctors, and specialist organizations cater for many doctors, but the AMA has powerful machinery for lobbying. Managed-care companies argue that there are too many doctors in the US. Health management organizations are seeking to control the way that doctors work, a trend which doctors argue can affect the work's quality. The AMA has sought to fight government intervention in medicine, but corporate managed care may affect doctors more.
