Article Abstract:

The role, impact and advantages of Information Technology (IT) in Supply Chain Management (SCM) have been discussed. The study, after going through all the available literature in SCM vis-a-vis IT, categorizes them into six different areas viz. strategic planning, virtual enterprise, e-commerce, infrastructure, knowledge and information technology (IT) management and implementation.

The reasons that have made the manufacturers to give importance to the formation of an effective supply chain have been mentioned. The study creates a model to test the effectiveness of a company's supply chain management. Other procedures used in the study have been discussed.
