Inevitable

Article Abstract:

Safety issues on United Kingdom railroads have become important in the aftermath of a crash in which between 30 and 40 people died. One problems is that the railroads have become increasingly congested, and track is used for trains traveling in different directions. The industry has also become atomized as a result of privatization, and the same is true for responsibility for railroad safety. The government has taken away responsibility for safety from Railtrack. There is a need to tackle the problem of underinvestment in the railroads, since changes in safety systems cannot compensate for lack of investment.
