In defence of Newt

Article Abstract:

House Republicans, as many as 50, who want to expel Gingrich as the Speaker of the House, have no good reason to do so. Although he is abrasive and arrogant, his positions and efforts are sound. He is honest enough to admit that US fiscal problems do not permit substantial tax cuts.

Article Abstract:

Gingrich will remain Speaker of the House for a minimum of two more years, now that voters have decided to allow Republicans to maintain control of the House. Gingrich has changed his political strategy dramatically in the wake of public reaction to him.
