The Ispat Group, an Indian steel and infrastructure conglomerate, proposes to shift its corporate office to London from Calcutta. The office will be shifted in 1999. This move is aimed at globalising its activities. The London office will manage policy, planning, development and co-ordination of the group. The Ispat Group consists of Ispat Industries Ltd, Ispat Energy, Gontermann Peipers India Ltd, Ispat Alloys Ltd, Ispat Profiles India and Ispat Metallics (India). (ag)

Ispat International NV, which acquired Inland Steel Company of the US in July 1998, has renamed it as Ispat Inland Inc. Ispat International says that the new name signifies the integration of Inland's high quality steel production capabilities with its leader position in the global steel industry. The $2.2 billion Ispat claims to be a leader in the integrated mini-mill process and produces a range of semi-finished flat and long steel products. (khr)

Houston Industries Inc (HII) of the US holds 25 percent stake in Rain Calcining Limited through a subsidiary, Houston Industries Energy Rain. HII is renamed Reliant Energy from February 3, 1999. Reliant Energy has a representative office in New Delhi since 1994. It has business activities in Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico and El Salvador.
