Pres Clinton is in the process of filling vacant cabinet positions, following his reelection. The process is a cumbersome one with the appointees requiring close scrutiny, as well as Congressional approval, and a bipartisan task force has recommended simplification of the procedures.

Article Abstract:

Ron Brown did not receive the post of Secretary of Commerce just as a political favor repayment by Bill Clinton. He is a shrewd politician and businessman. His business interests may conflict with his Commerce Department duties, but that is true of others as well.
