The early-1997 street movement that forced Slobodan Milosevic to accept opposition election victories has faded due to disputes among Zajedno (Together) opposition leaders. Milosevic may take refuge in running for Yugoslavian president instead, leaving the Serbian presidential race clouded.

Milan Panic is challenging incumbent Slobodan Milosevic for the presidency of Serbia. While there are hopes that a victory by Panic would end Serbian aggression in Bosnia-Herzegovina, it could start a civil war between differing Serb factions.
