Article Abstract:

Religion is important for 90% of Americans and the importance of religion is seen in US politics. George W Bush sees religious organizations as able to play an important role in tackling social problems. Welfare reform allows religious groups to receive public funds for welfare projects, and this could increase if Bush is elected. Some social problems are created by government. Children of prisoners are vulnerable to ending up in jail themselves, and the US has a high incarceration rate.
