German experiences: starting in practice

Article Abstract:

A British architectural practice has established a successful business in Germany. DEGW has been expanding into Europe since 1989 and opened an office in Munich, Germany, in 1991. It has won competitions to design a high-density inner city business park in Berlin and a project to redevelop the Carl Zeiss works in Jena. DEGW has found Germany offers inspiration on architectural ideas and believes its success in Germany is due to special expertise in certain areas, its international client base, its high profile in Germany and a certain amount of luck.

City reflections

Article Abstract:

An exhibition, 'City Changes,' at the Royal Exchange in London, England, has been put on by the Architecture Foundation and the Corporation of London. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a model of the City of London made by Piper Modelmakers. It has been painted to show the different periods of redevelopment. There are also detailed models of individual buildings. The exhibition does not cover urban design and it also points up the number of unbuilt projects that have been proposed for the City of London.
