In 1994, the French furniture output was valued at an estimated 51.5 billion French Francs (FFr), excluding tax. Production has declined slightly and consumption has levelled out at FFr67 billion. Meanwhile, production of furnishing fabrics and floor coverings rose significantly, with fabrics up 11%. Carpets and vinyls rose 13% each and parquets were up 18%. An overview of the markets for furniture and furnishings is given, including details of foreign trade, consumption, and forecasts for the future.

In 1995, German production of furniture dropped 2% to 34.2 billion Deutsche Marks (DM), with a further 4% drop forecast for 1996. Specialist trade sales also fell to DM44 billion. Similarly, production of household furnishings fell by around 5% to DM5.6 billion in 1995, with sales down to DM22 billion.
