SOUTH KOREA: CARREFOUR'S GOALS

Article Abstract:

According to forecasts, South Korea will have 200 hypermarkets by 2005, compared with 150 at present. Carrefour, the French retail giant, expects to participate in this development. Carrefour, which has 14 hypermarkets at present, plans to open four to six new hypermarkets per year during the years to come. Carrefour made a 1999 turnover of FFr 3.5bn in South Korea.

ITALY: AUCHAN CONTINUES ITS EXPANSION

Article Abstract:

Auchan, the French retail group, plans to invest EUR 206mn in order to continue its development in Italy. In the meantime, Citta Mercato hypermarkets, operated by Auchan-Rinascente, is going to undergo restructuring, and at the end of this it will take the Auchan name.

France: Carrefour expands its centre at Nimes

Article Abstract:

The Carrefour group is going to invest EUR 5mn in order to add 10,000 square metres to its centre at Nimes. The work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2002. The objective is to supply the 10 hypermarkets in Languedoc-Roussillon which up to now have been supplied by the Cavaillon unit, and to improve the terms and times of delivery. There will be 110 new jobs created thanks to this extension.
