Foster's posts 14% rise in profit for half, is upbeat on fiscal year

Foster's Brewing Group Ltd. reported an increase in its net profits for the fiscal first half. The company posted a 14% rise in net income. Foster's also predicted that it would perform well for the year ending on June 30, 1999. The company's net profits for the six months to December 31, 1998 reached A$191.1 million (US$124.4 million), compared to A$167.8 million the year before.

The company also reported a decline of 17% in its net profits for the year as a result of a A$171.4 million gain. Foster's profits came before extraordinary items.
