Footwear in Spain

Article Abstract:

Footwear production in Spain in 1997 set record volumes and values, mainly due to the growth in exports. Leather footwear represents 80% of the volume and 88% of the value. Exports rose by 11% in volume and 23% in value, with import volumes up by 13% and values up by 37%. Consumption increased slightly. There are around 2,700 manufacturers and much of production is outsourced. Moderate growth is expected in the longer term.
