Filigree writ large in the urban web

Article Abstract:

The front wall of the new Sainsbury's headquarters building is enigmatic because the glass of the upper floors encases a stone-clad structure grid, which breaks back in the middle to form a wedge-shaped atrium with a glass roof. The foster project architect Angus Campbell notioned that this building should be in two halves so that it allowed views from different directions across the atrium to the Holborn Circus.

Article Abstract:

The secretariat of Amnesty International has acquired a deep block fronting on to Rosebery Avenue in central London as it was engaging in expanding its activities. The entrance of the institution was relocated from the corner to somewhere in the main Rosebery Avenue facade to create a more public presence.

An architectural study of Notting Hill, London, designed by Gianni Botsford is presented. Architectural concepts are coming close to intuition free artistry independent design, based on the reality of the programme as defined by the site, client, location and local building ordinances.
