Ferromet (Prague, Czech Republic), metallurgy firm, increased its turnover five times to CEK 3.56 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. The firm expects a gross profit of CEK 1.595 mil for 2000. It became the main seller of the metallurgy production of the holding company Z-Group (Czech Republic) in Jan 2000. Transactions with the production represented 90% of the firm's total realized transactions in 2000. Two thirds of Ferromet's transactions were done on the domestic market in 2000. The firm exported mainly seamless tubes in 2000. Their exports to the US increased by 40% in 2000 compared to 1999.

Orlik (Ceska Trebova, Czech Republic), engineering production cooperative, increased its turnover to CEK 191.7 mil in 2000 compared to CEK 101 mil in 1999. The main reasons for the turnover growth were the revival of demand on the domestic market and an increase in the productivity of labour. According to a preliminary estimate, the cooperative expects a profit of CEK 4.5 mil for 2000 compared to a loss in 1999. Orlik manufactures compressors and pressure vessels. It has 220 employees. More than 50% of them are represented by persons with limited working abilities.

Czech Republic: The metallurgy sector plans to have 24,000 employees in 2010. The number is two-times lower compared to the end of 1999. The total costs on the restructuring of the Czech metallurgy industry should be CEK 82 bil. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the solution of social impacts per employee will cost over CEK 15 bil.
