A report looks at the facial pore cleansing strip market in the UK which saw growth of over 800% in 1998, reaching a value of 13.6 million pounds sterling. This is attributed to the launch of the Biore brand which is already launched in Japan, the US, and Canada. The products are successful as they effectively tackle the problem of clogged pores. Current advertising and promotional activities aim to educate and encourage trial. The market is predicted to be worth 47.1 million pounds sterling by 2002.

The UK market for household polishes remains relatively limited, although the launch of pot pourri fragranced products and trigger packs in recent years has helped to boost sales. Production of polishes has constantly increased since 1987, with furniture/floor polishes accounting for 70-75% of output. Imports continue to rise, and reached a value of more than 8 million pounds sterling in 1993.
