FRANCE: CARREFOUR GOES INTO CAR RENTALS

Article Abstract:

The manufacturers' monopoly on car sales is scheduled to end in 2002. Carrefour is preparing to launch a long term rental service for new cars to private individuals. This new service is to begin at the end of the first half of 2000. Carrefour is targeting a virgin market; at present long term rentals concern only the market of companies and administrations. There seems to be considerable potential in long term rental service for private individuals. It may also interest artisans and the liberal professions.
