Europe's industries play dirty
Article Abstract:
Europe's energy industries are actively opposing the European Community's proposed tax on carbon dioxide polluters. Thus far, the industry's argument that the tax would cause job losses has not been persuasive, but the claim that unilateral EC imposition of the tax would be unfair has forestalled it.

Article Abstract:
Some economists propose that by taxing pollutants such as carbon, treasuries can add to their revenues while countries become cleaner. The danger of such a plan is that energy prices and unemployment could rise if the revenues were not wisely recycled.
