Europe-wide digital standards

Article Abstract:

Marconi Mobile has developed the Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) system for the digital transfer of voice communications and data. TETRA does not suffer from the shortcomings of other wireless systems such as low data transfer rates or the absence of instant call set-up. TETRA will offer national coverage, excellent voice quality, instant call set-up and corporate VPNs. It can replace four discrete pieces of in-vehicle communications equipment, the mobile data terminal, the PMR dispatch telephone, the cellular phone and the pager.
