Dresdner's Man in Russia

Article Abstract:

Chief Executive Officer Matthias Warnig of Dresdner Bank AG in Russia has a past as a Stasi operator, apparently spying on Dresdner Bank AG in West Germany before joining the bank. Mr. Warnig's lawyer has reported that Mr. Warnig was known to President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg in the 1990's, not in East Germany in the 1980's.

Sachsen's "conduit" hit: affiliate's soured bets led to a forced sale; do more problems lurk?

Article Abstract:

Germany's Sachsen LB was forced into selling itself to another German state-owned bank due to a significant downturn in investments through an Irish affiliate, Ormond Quay, that involved US subprime loans. Sachsen was bought by Landesbank Baden-Wurttemberg for a stock swap valued at 300 mil euros.
