Article Abstract:

There have been reactions to the usage of language which have led to resignations due to minority groups taking offence at certain words that could be interpreted as pejorative. Some of these reactions relate to words that could initially appear as innocent in terms of their origin and the intentions of the user. The logical consequence of such sensivitity is to reduce the number of words that can be used to a small fraction of those in the English language.

At its best, Sesame Street celebrates the diversity of American culture. But some adherents of the multiculturalism Sesame Street represents descend into a kind of politically correct intolerance. The controversy over the notion of political correctness is examined.

US firms are sponsoring political art exhibits by women and minorities in an attempt to change their images. AT&T, Time Warner Inc, Metropolitan Life Insurance Co and Philip Morris are all active in supporting 'politically correct' art.
