The European Union antitrust unit has begun an inquiry into the practices of Deutsche Telekom in the European Internet market. It is responding to a complaint by AOL Europe which alleges that Deutsche Telekom is suppressing competion by unfairly supporting T-Online, Germany's leading internet service provider, with low subsciption and access charges. AOL Europe claims that almost all European phone companies are guilty of discriminatory behavior but Detsche Telekom is the worst offender.

The Federal trade Commission has raised serious anti-trust concerns about the proposed merger of America Online Inc. and Time Warner Inc. Regulators fear that the merged company will have excessive power over Internet access in cites where Time Warner controls cable systems.
