Denmark: Wireless broadband market to expand

Article Abstract:

Several Danish telecom companies have announced that they are going to target the wireless broadband market. TDC has declared that the existing mobile network and the future UMTS services will be supplemented with high-speed wireless broadband networks. Telia Net says the company has already installed such networks in several office premises in Denmark, and Sonofon says it will make use of experiences from Norway, where its parent company Telenor is to install wireless broadband networks. In addition, there are new players on the Danish market which are planning to enter the wireless broadband market. One of these is Dansk Internet Adgang, which is planning to launch a service called Redspot.

Denmark: Operators willing to co-operate in UMTS

Article Abstract:

Danish mobile telephony companies TDC, Orange and Telia are prepared to co-operate with each other in the UMTS network market in order to bring down costs. The Danish UMTS license holders are TDC, Orange, Telia and HI3G. These companies are to invest at least DKr12bn (US$1.4bn) in their UMTS networks. A co-operation between the leading UMTS license holders could entail lost orders worth up to DKr3bn for Nokia and Ericsson that have been the leading suppliers of mobile telephony infrastructure in Denmark.

Denmark: Orange in UMTS negotiations with Sonofon

Article Abstract:

Orange, the telecoms operator, has imitated negotiations with Sonofon regarding UMTS co-operation. According to Orange MD Monique Moulle-Zetterstrom, the company is very interested in co-operation with Sonofon. She declines to reveal details about this but says there is a possibility that the two parties are to join forces to build a UMTS network. Sonofon's owners BellSouth and Telenor could not agree to bid for a UMTS license in Denmark which is why Sonofon now has no license.
