Article Abstract:
Swedish Telia is to launch a new Danish broadband portal named comhjem.dk as from the beginning of next year. The content of the new portal will consist of games, video-on-demand, SMS services and tools for setting up joint web sites for specific user groups among other things. Telia Internet manager Brian Gjerstrup declines to give further details about the portal at this stage. Telia has outsourced the development of the content to partners and will split the proceeds from the portal with the partners.

Telecoms analyst expect the four UMTS license winners in Denmark i.e. TDC, Orange, Telia and HI3G to spend about DKr6bn (US$722mn) in the purchase of active equipment to the new mobile telephony network. The six companies competing for these orders include Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens, Alcatel, Lucent and Motorola. Telecoms analysts Mette S. Ahorlu of IDC and Michael Moesgaard Andersen of Andersen Management International regards Ericsson and Nokia as the hot favourites.

The Danish research ministry aims to take measures to make sure that the Danish telecoms network will function even during emergency situations. This move stems from the September 11 terror attacks in the US. A proposal by the ministry regarding such measures is being circulated for consideration among authorities.
