Banestyrelsen, the National Danish Railway Agency, aims to close down the 26-km rail cargo link between Tinglev and Tonder. This would affect the operations of JF Fabrikken in Sonderborg, Hydro's operations in Tonder as well as Grindsted products in Grindsted. Production manager Eigil Sabroe of Banestyrelsen says the link will be closed due to poor quality of tracks on the route as the fact that the cost of repairing the tracks would amount to more than DKr75mn (US$9mn). Vestbanen A/S manager Michael Langager says the rail company has clients for cargo traffic on the route as well as the machinery of production for the purpose. It co-operates with Nordfriesische Verkehrsbetrieve AG.

Swedish IKEA's subsidiary IKEA Rail AB has signed a letter of intent regarding rail cargo transport co-operation with the newly-established Rail Transportation Team RTT, which is a subsidiary of Danish TraXion A/S, Swedish TGOJ Trafik AB and the large German cargo transport company Ruhrkohle Hafen und Bahn AG. IKEA's rail co-operation plans were partly prompted by the German government's plans for marked restrictions and fees for heavy road cargo traffic.

The private Danish railroad cargo operator PrivatBanen Sonderjylland is back in the black after six months of financial trouble through a DKr 1.6 million (US$ 188,000) capital infusion from PBS. CEO Ulf Smith believes this will be enough to give the company time to find new, stronger partners.
