Denmark: Advertising revenue for newspapers to drop

Article Abstract:

Danish papers are expected to lose advertising revenue due to the slowdown in the advertising market, according to an analysis conducted by media agency CIA on the basis of estimates by Dansk Oplagskontrol and CIA. This is expected to cost the Danish dailies up to DKr0.5bn in earnings in 2001. National papers will be hardest hit by the drop, and Jyllands-Posten and Berlingske Tidende will account for 40-50% of the combined decline. Regional papers will account for a 5% drop in advertising revenue i.e. DKr111mn. The winners in the advertising sector will be radio advertising, that is expected to brow by 13% in 2001, and cinema advertising with a 30% growth. Internet advertising is also expected to grow by 20% this year.
